Successfull Launch of ABS-2 Satellite

ABS-2 satellite, manufactured by Space Systems/Loral (SSL), was successfully launched from  Kourou Space Centre (French Guiana) on February 7th, 2014, at 01:30 a.m. Moscow time. The spacecraft was set into the low earth orbit by Ariane-5 carrier vehicle. ABS-2 multifunctional satellite is fit up with 89 C, Ku and Ka-band transponders, working via 10 beams.

The Russian beam of the satellite has a unique footprint covering the territory of Russia, CIS countries, Baltic and Eastern European countries. GeoTelecommunications, LLC has at its disposal 9 ABS-2 transponders of 54 MHz each. The spacecraft is intended  to provide a full range of communication services for broadcasters, telecoms operators and corporate clients.

Commercial operation of the new satellite will start about April. Since its commencement GeoTelecommunications, LLC will start to transfer to ABS-2  stepwisely the channels now working via ABS-1. At the same time ABS-2 transponders will be furnished step by step with new channels in SD and HD formats, and the works on arrangement of data transfer services, communication channels provision services, etc will be conducted.
